Park Ridge Park District works hard to ensure seniors in our community have an array of options for staying active and engaged. First, there’s our S.T.A.R. membership, where there’s always something going on, no matter what your interest. Throughout the year, an array of S.T.A.R. clubs, activities, trips, and events are offered. You're bound to discover new interests and new friends.

Then there are the exceptional programs and outings we offer adults, giving you a chance to enjoy time with others. In fact, the hardest part about taking advantage of all that’s available is deciding what it is you want to do first. View the programs below.

Boxing Day If you want to have some light-hearted fun, join us for Boxing Day! This post-Christmas tradition, which is celebrated by many in Great Britain and some Commonwealth countries, to the Centennial Activity Center. This event is similar to a White Elephant Gift Exchange. To participate, register and bring one, new unwanted item wrapped. Laughs are sure to happen as you sip on a warm drink and enjoy cookies. Celebrate Lunar New Year Welcome the Year of the Horse! On February 17, 2026 a large part of East Asia will welcome the Year of the Horse ending on February 6, 2027. The Chinese use the zodiac animals to inspire and encourage positive qualities in ourselves by learning from the natural world. The twelve zodiac signs are used to measure time and build social relationships. Your Chinese zodiac animal may have hidden qualities you previously were not aware of. Mah jongg came a long way…from China to the United States. Enjoy delicious Chinese cuisine and learn from educator, Yvonne Wolf, who will enlighten you about how that journey came about, what the Mahjong characters (AKA kraks), bamboos (AKA bams), and dots represent, and the difference between Mah jongg and mahjong. Oscars 2026 The 2026 Academy Awards will be here before you know it. Join us for lunch as we celebrate the 98th Academy Awards honoring motion pictures released in 2025. Our guest presenter, who is an award-winning screenwriter, associate professor in Cinema and Television Arts, and an instructor in film comedy at Second City’s Film School at Chicago’s famed Second City, will share clips and review this year’s films and personalities. You will also get to vote on who you believe will win in each category, and the person(s) with the most correct will win a prize. Menu will be announced in the STAR Newsletter. This eight-hour, two-day course is for motorists age 55 and older. It focuses on the physical changes that accompany aging and on ways older adult drivers can compensate for these changes to improve their driving skills. After taking this course you will be eligible for a multi-year discount on your car insurance! Fee is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-AARP members to be paid on the first day of class to AARP. This mat yoga class focuses on building strength, agility, balance and flexibility. This is a more active class for seniors that includes floor, seated, and standing postures. Participants must be able to get up and down from the floor on their own. Instructor: Jodi Fedoruk. CAC

Combine mindfulness practices with yoga movements and breath work that will help you find strength, flexibility and balance. This exercise class utilizes the Pelvicore Pro, weights, and bands to improve total body function. Core training and balance reaction is emphasized! This functional movement class strengthens and lengthens your muscles to improve total body function, utilizing the Pelvicore Pro and thera-bands for mobility, stability, and flexibility. Instructor: Michele Crump. CAC

Aerobics: Move to Improve Move, groove, and feel energized with this low impact aerobics class that will keep your heart healthy and your body strong without high impact or complicated choreography. Easy-to-follow cardio combinations will improve endurance, coordination, balance and overall well-being. Instructor: Maria Nicholson. CAC

This 45-minute class combines the use of free weights to strengthen, resistance bands to lengthen, and stretching to increase flexibility. Warm-up consists of light stretching and low cardio to prep the muscles and joints. Next 30 minutes of resistance training using resistance bands and dumbbells to strengthen and further sculpt the muscles, followed by gentle stretching for a complete cool-down. Each month we visit a different restaurant, and you get to choose what to order. Your cost simply includes the price of transportation; meal cost is on your own. If you wish to meet at the restaurant, please let the front desk know. If there is a waitlist please feel free to still sign up. Waitlisted individuals are listed in numerical order and are given the opportunity to register when there is a cancellation. Our docent led tour of the three floors of the mansion is accessible by elevator and includes a special limited “Tiffany Lamps: Beyond the Shade” exhibit. This 45-minute class combines the use of free weights to strengthen, resistance bands to lengthen, and stretching to increase flexibility. A 5-8 minute warm-up consisting of light stretching and low cardio to prep the muscles and joints. Next 30 minutes of resistance training using resistance bands and dumbbells to strengthen and further sculpt the muscles, followed by gentle stretching for a complete cool-down.
