South Park

South Park

Park Information

In 1936, the Park District acquired South Park for $27,300 from an athletic club in financial trouble. At the time, this not only added tennis to the growing number of recreational opportunities at the District, but also provided the low, level area needed for outdoor skating. The first outdoor skating rink at South Park was created in the winter of 1948, and still today, the District offers outdoor ice skating at South Park.

The South Park Rec Center was built in 1968, providing space for recreational programs, as well as banquet facilities available for rental by the public. In 2001, the South Park Wading Pool was remodeled and continues to provide aquatic enjoyment for younger children.
